The Baimashi(White Horse Stone) folk culture village, situated at the southern foot of Mt Tai, is a typical mountain village that preserves its ancient charms. It used to be the Domaine du Chasseur of Weiwang(378 BC-320 BC), the king of the ancient Qi State. There are over 450 cliffside inscriptions and over 500 stone inscriptions of poems for Mt Tai by such calligraphy masters as Qi Gong, Zhao Puchu, Shen Peng, Wang Xuezhong, etc. It is the “Chinese Language Education Base” approved of by the State Council of China, and serves as a base for writers, which attracts tourists for folk cultures from home and abroad every year.
Every year around the Lantern Festival, tourists can enjoy the atmosphere of the festival by watching the local yangko, dragon lantern show and lion dancing. The village also boasts of its superb workmanship in folk paper cutting and vivid paper cutting works. This place is your perfect choice if you are tired of the hustle and bustle of city life and wish to relax yourself by getting close to nature. There are grown the well-known trees of red pomegranate in almost every household, where a drink of the spring water from the wells gives the people the lingering sweetness of the water. Living in the village is like living in the garden of Eden because one can either stay at home eating the carefully cooked dinner or follow the local farmers out of home to plow fields, prune branches of fruit trees, pick fruit or fish at the lake. What a tranquil scene all these will be! The villagers have also preserved the tradition of making black potteries in this village. There are altogether over 20 series of and 350 kinds of black potteries. They are exquisitely made and are even sold in the overseas markets.
